Just rambling through the forest of life.

But now, now looking at tonight, they were making a promise. On this night, they had promised to move on, move in together and make a go. Of course the guilt and actually letting go of the ghosts and demons that still haunted their hearts was going to be hard, but they would do it together.

Thinking through tonight, the man was still driving home, in the wind and rain. The lightning flashed across the sky, and the thunder rolled. He just wanted to get home. Hitting the outskirts of the city, he turned left onto the ring-road, his destination was at the other end of the city, another 30 mins drive.

He could feel the key, swore it felt more heavy tonight, the years of guilt, of being the one to live while his wife died in his arms hung heavy around his neck, he had prayed to what he now thought a heartless God to save her and let him die.

His thoughts drifted back to earlier. She was in her uniform, he knew it would be only a few hours together, she was at work overnight. She left him to lock up as she left early, he could have stayed but he needed to be home for work. The drive took over an hour at this time of night. The rain got worse, his car streaked through the wrong side of town, leaving jet streams of water behind. He had stopped crying, but felt really tired. Taking the next turn, he slowed down and skidded round. The car was violently stopped by going forward y the traffic lights, he had hit. He felt the impact on is chest, his legs and his head as he was whipped forward. He felt the life slowly draining from him as he lost consciousness. The last thing he thought he felt was the key from round his neck fall away. He thought he had seen a light approaching and a figure walking in the middle of the road. He swore it looked like his dead wife, beckoning him. Next thing he felt was he was walking or rather floating towards her. She took his hand, kissed his cheek and led him towards the light, she waved goodbye as he passed through.

“Go back my love, my life, you are not ready to meet me, go be with her, love her as you loved me” he heard a voice say. Then darkness.

He felt strange pains on his chest and a burning feeling. It hurt so much as he jolted and jolted again, he felt sharp pains down his arms, then just fell asleep.
